The 9 Hole Drill is a highly versatile tool that can be utilized on paper or steel targets. In this drill, Cord shares a simulated exercise that encompasses various stressors that the barricade presents. Participants will place steel targets at distances ranging from 10-25 yards and engage the steel once or twice from each position, only moving on once they have made their hits. For a focus on cover and closer CQB distances, paper targets will be placed at 15 yards.
Working with different distances, especially when using different magnifications on your optics, will help distinguish the best shooters. During these positions, you may discover challenges that make it more difficult to take the shot. Higher magnification means a smaller eye box and a more unstable position. Your position may also have to be adjusted based on the target you're engaging.
For instance, if you're using just a dot, this may improve your speed and position building, but it may also impact your accuracy and engagement.
Completing the 9 holes will challenge participants to think ahead, call their shots, and get faster. Cord emphasizes the importance of finding positions that work for each individual. Experimenting with different positions is encouraged, and the difficulty of the drill can be increased by adding support side shooting on the last low hole or by shooting the entire drill from the support side. "First and foremost, we want to find the positions that work for you.
